About this course

Every singer needs a reliable toolkit – practical skills that make music feel less mysterious and more instinctive. The Singer’s Toolkit is designed to give you exactly that.

This engaging six-part course builds on the core musical skills developed through The Singer’s Toolkit 1, aiming to put these important principles into practice and apply them to your singing. It is also suitable for those who have not completed the first course but have a basic understanding of musical notation.

The Singer’s Toolkit series is written and presented by an experienced singer, singing teacher and choral director who has guided thousands of singers through these ideas with clarity, humour and care.

Across the series of 60-minute sessions, you will learn how to:

🎵 Strengthen your sight-singing skills

🎵 Master dotted rhythms, rests and changing time signatures with confidence

🎵 Recognise and sing small and large melodic leaps accurately

🎵 Develop relative pitch and understand how intervals shape melody

🎵 Build coordination between pulse, rhythm and phrasing

🎵 Use warm-ups and vocal exercises to increase vocal control and agility

🎵 Interpret dynamics and expression to bring music to life

🎵 Read and perform short sight-singing examples with greater accuracy and ease

This is not a purely technical or theoretical course – it is about by applying music theory directly to practice, turning understanding into confident, expressive singing. Each session is packed with clear demonstrations, guided exercises and real-world examples that you can follow and revisit at your own pace. A resource pack is provided with each session, containing examples and exercises to help you practise at home.

This is Part 2 of The Singer’s Toolkit, expanding on the foundations of the first course through applied sight-singing, interval training and rhythm work. It takes you further into the craft of musical interpretation, helping you read, feel and perform music with increasing fluency and confidence.

Whether you are returning after the first series or joining us for the first time, this course will help you refine your musicianship, strengthen your ear, and sing with assurance and artistry.
